MYC Membership: Privileges and Responsibilities
We all are extremely blessed to be able to enjoy Lake Maxinkuckee. We also are fortunate to have such an active yacht club. Outlined below are some of the privileges of being a MYC member. Most of these are organized and executed by volunteers.
- · Weekly sailboat races (Memorial Day to Labor Day)
- · 4th of July family picnic and games
- · Fall regatta and chili cheeseburger party
- · Weekly junior fleet (sailing instruction and racing)
- · Annual MYC membership and sailing awards dinner
- · Three cocktail parties per summer (June, July, August)
- o June Cocktail Party (Commodores Party) – This party is hosted by the new commodore and the committee are the past 10 commodores
- o July Cocktail Party – This party is usually in mid-July. The MYC social chairman always is looking for hosts and committee members for this party
- o August Cocktail Party – This party is usually in early August. The August party will be held at the Maxinkuckee Country Club. We are still looking for committee members!
With privileges come some responsibilities. The list of membership responsibilities is much smaller but extremely important!
- · Host or be part of a hosting committee (social and sailing members)
- · Volunteer to run weekly sailboat races (required for sailing members)
- · Volunteer to assist with MYC Fall Regatta (social and sailing members)
Host or be part of a hosting committee – We ask all of our members to host or be part of a hosting committee at least one time per 4-6 years. Since MYC does not have a yacht club we need the members to step forward. What does it mean to be a host or part of a hosting committee?
Cocktail Party Hosts
To be a host means the party will be in your yard. You are not required or expected to open up your home to members/guests at the party. Typically a host will have a committee of 6-10 couples to help with the organization and cost of the party. The responsibilities of a host are to work with the committee with planning, set up, tear down, provide food and assist with the costs of the party. MYC does subsidize a portion of the party costs.
Cocktail Party Hosting Committee
The responsibilities of being a committee member is to assist the host with planning, set up, tear down, provide food and assist with the costs of the party. MYC does subsidize a portion of the party costs. The committee is usually formed by the host or by the MYC social chairman.
