Trophy DescriptionsTucker-Speer Memorial Day Series TrophyThis trophy was donated by Joe Schaub IV in honor of Dave Tucker and Steve Speer. Dave and Steve were both sailors of MYC and organized the Memorial Day Series. This trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the Memorial Day Series.Don Trone Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by Pete Trone in memory of his father, Don. It is to be awarded to the winner of the first Saturday race of the new season.L. Roy Ford Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by the L. Roy Ford family in memory of Roy, who died while racing in an E Scow on Lake Maxinkuckee. It is to be awarded to the winner of the first Sunday race of the new season.E. Allen Becker TrophyThis trophy was donated by Mr. & Mrs. Fred Wurster in honor of Allen Becker. It is to be awarded to the winner of the first Saturday race on the day of the first MYC Party.Michels Commodore's CupThis trophy was originally given to Norman Michels in 1941 when he was Commodore of the yacht club. His family returned this trophy to the club when Mr. Michels passed away in hopes that it would be used as a race trophy. The Regatta committee, under John Becker's leadership, made the decision in the summer of 2000-2001 to begin using the trophy. It is to be awarded to the winning C-scow of the Sunday race after the Commodore's Party.Jim Russell Father's Day TrophyThis trophy was donated by the Chandler and Hartzell family members in honor of their father. It is to be awarded to the first father to cross the finish line during the race on Father's Day, or the next race sailed.The Zechiel Memorial CupIn honor of Jerome "Zeke" and Betty Zechiel, this trophy was donated by Richard Balkama, Zeke's crew during the mid-80's. Zeke was a C Scow champion in the 60's and 70's and known for his great lessons such as "We can do this all afternoon, but if we can't execute, we lose". Part of Betty's love for Zeke was accepting the fact that he was going to do that crazy thing called sailing notwithstanding his diabetes. It is awarded to the winner of the race closest to June 23, their anniversary.Thomas H. Hendricks Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by Bob and Cici Hollowell in memory of Thomas. Mr. Hendricks sailed B Scows as well as other classes with the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club. It is to be awarded to the winner of the first race on the 4th of July.Emory Baxter Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by Joyce H. Speer. Emory was a longtime sailor of C Scows - sailing from the 30's into the 60's. When he was Commodore in 1957, Joyce was his secretary and also crewed with him for some time. This trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the first Sunday race in July.Margaret Holmes Washburn Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by Margaret Washburn in memory of her husband. It is to be awarded to the winner of the first Saturday race closest to July 16th - her wedding anniversary.MYC Team TrophyThis trophy was donated to MYC at the awards banquet in 2007 to promote fleet participation. It is awarded to a Fleet team (seeded by the fleet captain) with the lowest overall score for the races in the month of July. The anonymous donor expects this trophy to be our version of the "Stanley Cup" and should be rotated between the teammates throughout the year and treated and celebrated much like a member of the family.Robert E. Hollowell Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by the Hollowell-Speer families in memory of Robert. Mr. Hollowell was very active in the reorganization of the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club following World War II. The trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the first Sunday race in August.Norman & Helen Michels TrophyThis trophy was donated by their daughter, Janie Michels. Norman and Helen were longtime residents of Culver and active members of MYC. Norman was an avid E Scow sailor in the '20s and '30s. The trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the first race on Saturday closest to August 10th - their wedding anniversary.Lee Roth TrophyThis trophy was donated by the late Charles Roth, Commodore 1969, in honor of his wife. It is to be awarded to the winner of the last Saturday series race of the season.Walker W. Winslow TrophyThis trophy was donated by his wife, Eleanor. Walker Winslow was instrumental in reorganizing MYC as we know it today. He was an active member of Maxinkuckee Yacht Club as well as the ILYA. He was the 1st Commodore of MYC after reorganizing in the '40s. His trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the race closest to his birthday - August 10th.Henry W. Bliss Memorial TrophyThis trophy was donated by his wife, Betty, in his memory. Henry was a longtime member of MYC and was the official timer for all races in the '30s and '40s. His trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the last Sunday race of the season.Robert and Frances Bolton Memorial Labor Day Series TrophyThis trophy was donated by Maxinkuckee Yacht Club in memory of Robert and Frances. Both were active members of the yacht club. Robert was an avid E Scow sailor. He was also Director of Culver Naval School. This trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the Labor Day Series.Washburn Match RaceThis trophy was donated by William Washburn, better known as Cutter. Cutter is an active member of the yacht club and C Scow sailor. The trophy is to be awarded to the winner of the match race at the end of the season. The winner of the Saturday Series and the winner of the Sunday Series will sail against each other to determine this winner.Kathryn T. Schaub TrophyThis trophy was donated the summer of 2006 in honor of Kathryn "Kitty" Schaub, by her son, Steve Schaub, an active C Scow Sailor. The award is a tribute to Kitty's lifelong commitment to the yacht club, serving many roles including commodore in '82, and on the race committee for numerous years. She was considered by many the "Matriarch of MYC". This trophy shall be awarded to the winning crew of the C Scow match race at the end of the season, because more often than not it is those who work behind the scenes who contribute the most.Walker Winslow Yachting Supremacy T-1 TrophyWalker Winslow sailed with the Number T-1 during his years as a MYC sailor. This number has since been retired. This trophy is to be awarded to the C Scow sailor who has the best average (least number of points) in the Saturday and Sunday series.Frank and Charlotte Gates Sportsmanship TrophyThis trophy was given in memory of her parents by Miss Charlotte Gates. It is to be awarded to the C Scow sailor who exhibits the best sportsmanship-like behavior on the race course. The skippers are to meet and vote on the recipient.Fred Holmes Trophy - Best Girl Crew and Best Boy CrewThese trophies are in memory of Fred Holmes, a former MYC member. They are to be voted on by the C Scow skippers and awarded to the best female crew and the best male crew for that season.Bill Keedy Most Improved Senior Skipper TrophyThis trophy was donated by the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club in memory of Bill Keedy. Bill started at a young age, sailing on Lake Maxinkuckee, first as a Hobie skipper and then later as a skipper of C Scows. This trophy is named in honor of Billy for his enthusiastic love of sailing and should be an inspiration to all sailors. It is awarded to the C Scow skipper with the most improved average finish place throughout the Saturday and Sunday series over the prior year average. To be eligible, the skipper must have sailed in 1/3 of the races sailed in each year.MYC Philips MC Trophy - Saturday Series I
These trophies were donated by Carl and Patricia Philips for the MC Fleet. The Philips have been avid participants in the yacht club for many years and wished to help support the growth of the MC Fleet by purchasing these two trophies. The Saturday Series I trophy is awarded to the highest scoring sailor for that series and the Saturday Series II trophy is awarded to the highest scoring sailor in the series as well.
